Rapid Assessment completed in Nuwakot District

The second phase of study on the impact of earthquake in microfinance was conducted in Nuwakot District. The research team of CSD visited various places like Okharpauwa, Ranipauwa, Bidur, Battar, Jiling, Ratamate, Betrawati, Dhikure and Kharanitar of Nuwakot from Shrawan 11 to 13, 2072. The team included Mr. Satish Shrestha, Ms. Stephaniema Rana, Ms. Chetana Panthi and Ms. Abhilasha Poudel.

The team interacted with the branch manager and other officials at the branch office of MFIs like Deprosc Laghubitta Bikas Bank, MANUSHI, Mero Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha, Nirdhan Uthan Bank and Clean Village, then observed centre meetings, performed focused group discussion with the clients and visited the houses of the clients. The main objective is to find out status of MFIs and their members after the earthquake, how they are coping at present, what the demands of members are and what strategies have MFIs undertaken, in order to bring back the normalcy in its client’s life, what new products have been introduced by the MFIs to benefit the clients and what could be the repercussion if clients needs are not addressed on time. The assessment has been completed and the team is working on the report. The team plans to visit few other districts for the assessment.
