Organization of ToT for Microfinance Officials to Educate Community on Covid-19

The Training of Trainers (ToT) aiming to spread covid-19 education among the community was organized jointly by the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) and RMDC Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. for the first time in Nepal with the technical support of Opportunity International Australia. The training was delivered by Dr. D. S. K. Rao, Dr. Soumitra Dutta, and Alok Chakraborty of India, and the event was facilitated by Ms. Annie Wang of the Opportunity International, Australia. The training was attended by 25 trainers from 25 microfinance institutions.

The training acquainted the participants with the methods of educating the community about the misconception of Covid-19 prevention measures. Each of the 25 trainers graduated from this training will provide such training to 25 to 30 branch managers of their respective organization. Similarly, the branch managers will also provide such training to 5 to 7 employees under their branch. In this way, the trained field staff will educate their center chiefs of client leaders of the 10 centers who in turn will transfer the covid-19 prevention message to at least 30 families and will sensitize entire villages on safety measures to keep safe from covid-19.  In that way, the aim of this ToT is to familiarize about 2.5 million people in the community to save their lives from being victims of Corona Pandemic.

Speaking in the training program, the Chairman of the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) Mr. Shankar Man Shrestha said that the objective of the training was not only to train the participants but also to spread awareness about Covid-19 in the community through branch managers, field officers, and microfinance members. Shrestha also suggested the trainees to organize training for the branch managers of their organization within a week. "If you complete the training on time, it will go a long way in reducing the worse impact and incidences of Covid-19. Again, the Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise. Even today, many people do not know about the basic preventive measures and many people are careless as well. Even though the vaccine is available, they are reluctant to get vaccinated. Our goal is to improve this situation. If our members are safe, their businesses are also safe, and only if their businesses are safe, our loans are safe. After the training, no microfinance member should lose her life due to Corona. So let's monitor the progress regularly.” Shrestha said.

Similarly, Mr. Jyoti Chandra Ojha, Chief Executive Officer of RMDC Laghubitta Bitiya Sanstha Ltd. said that 25 people have been selected in the first phase of the training as leaders of the microfinance sector with the aim of the effective dissemination of Covid-19 awareness education at the field level within the organization and towards the large masses in the coming days.  He thanked the TOT team members for the very effective delivery of the TOT and Ms. Annie Young for kind support and effective management of the program.

The evaluation survey conducted after the training has shown that the ToT was very effective for the participants and it helps to clear all the illusions about the Covid-19 among them. It has also been found that the participants have become familiar with the adverse impact of the Covid -19 and they were found enthusiastic to deliver the skills and knowledge within the respective organization they acquire in the ToT.
