Entrepreneurship Development Program at Regional Level: 65 officers of Microfinance Capacitated in Jhapa District

The rate of bad loans has been increasing in microfinance institutions with the increasing trend of borrowings for non-productive and consumption purpose by the client members. As obvious, client members are burdened with unnecessary debts while MFIs suffers from increasing bad loan management. There is an urgency to capacitated potential clients to take up themselves as a successful entrepreneurs and financially self-sufficient by discouraging the lending of unproductive sectors.


Creating sustainable enterprises and thereby positively impacting on society and economy, the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) which have been campaigning for the entrepreneurship development among the microfinance members in the country organized two more events of three-day entrepreneurship development training programs at regional level. The events were organized from July 24 to 26, 2081 at Charpane, for the employees of Sahara Nepal Saccos Ltd. and from July 27 to 29, 2081 for the employees of Navodaya Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd. at Kerkha of Jhapa District.
A total of 65 field staffs, 30 from Sahara and 35 from Navodaya were benefited from these training which were organized with an objective to enhance the skills to identify and groom potential entrepreneur members to establish their own business.
Participants were acquainted with the skills of entrepreneur from borrows and analyze their potentiality on identifying characteristics to run their own enterprise as well as advise the measures to be taken to minimize the risks associated with business. During the training idea were also shared on suitable and risk-free micro-enterprises in the country, proper pricing of goods and products, accessing them to the local resources, understanding and expanding market, leveraging enterprises with government subsidies and grants. However the important part of this training, was to groom participants to prepare business plan of business of their potential entrepreneur. Information were shared on aligning various credit plus programs of the organization with entrepreneurship development among the clients.


The trainings were facilitated by CSD team lead by Director Mr. Satish Shrestha, Senior Officer Ms. Renu Prajapati, Senior Assistant Ms. Saru Magar. Additionally, Mr Grishma Shresth of Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta bittiya Sanstha ltd. and Mr Nabin Lamichanne of Sahara Nepal Saccos Ltd. also facilitated the training sessions as regional facilitators of CSD.
Mr. Mahendra Kumar Giri, CEO of Sahara Nepal Saccos and Vice-President of CSD Governing board was the chief guest of the training closing ceremony held at charpane Jhapa. He also distributed certificates of accomplishment to the successful participants.
Similarly, Mr. Saran Kumar Parajuli, Chairman of Navodaya Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd. was the chief guest during the closing event held at Kerkha, Jhapa.
