CSD Initiate Digital Literacy amongst Micro entrepreneurs from MFIs

The global marketplace is rapidly shifting towards digitalization to enhance consumer access, need & satisfaction. There is vast untapped marketplace for Micro entrepreneurs members from MFIs, with this opportunity to explore, CSD imitated digital literacy amongst microfinance members to keep pace with the new developments.
Towards this a 3-day training program titled “Digital Literacy amongst Micro Entrepreneurs in MFIs” a three-day training on Digital Literacy for micro entrepreneurs clients of its members MFIs from June 25 to 27, 2024 (Asar 11 to 13, 2081) at Hotel Hardik, Kathmandu. The training was organized with the main objective of making a presence in the digital market as well as enhancing abilities in using information and communication technologies to expand the market and business.The program were facilitated by Senior Training Officer from CSD, Ms. Renu Prajapati; Environment & Entrepreneurship Development Officer, Ms. Bigya Gyawali; and Ms. Saru Magar from Training section. They were also joined by Mr. Ankur Shrestha, Assistant Manager at MicroSave Consultancy Service, Nepal and Mr. Saurav Thapa Shrestha a popular branding expert.

Speaking at the opening session, Executive Chief of CSD, Mr. Becchan Giri, emphasized the importance of digital platforms in enabling the sale of a wide range of products, from gold to salt, and stressed the need to be well-prepared to adapt to the new evolving digital-aided tools.
During the sessions, participants gained insights into the digitalization process, from laying a market foundation for the long-term goals of building and managing successful businesses or enterprises.  Vertical & Horizontal markets were discussed for a better understanding of the products market and their real consumers. The participant acquired the process of setting up a Google account and government certification (PAN/VAT and company registration). It also concentrated on how to download apps for mobile banking as well as familiarize with different functions of mobile banking and security risks such as OTP scam alerts, unauthorized money transfers & hacking (Phishing) conspiracy by cyber-terrorists. Different digital payment platforms such as e-Sewa, Khalti, IME pay were discussed in the program to foster the habit of stepping toward the digital world, another aid of digitalization was to keep track of their income, and expenditure in a safer place for further use of the data for financial & risk management, legal protection, strategic planning.

There was also a separate session on various e-commerce platforms in the country and different criteria and formalities to get registered as a seller. Apart from this the participants were also acquainted with the importance of branding and packaging in digital marketplace. Product details and information, maintaining value and recognition, trust & reliability, and business growth in the competitive marketplace.
The program encompassed different aspect from the initial product development phase to meeting consumers' needs and access, product packaging, branding, labelling, advertising, and marketing as well tried best to empower them to shape their long-term goals toward building and managing successful businesses or enterprises.

The training were participated by 18 micro- entrepreneur members from CSD’s 7 Member institution; comprising Nawaprativa Bachat Tatha Rin Sahakari Sanstha Ltd., Manushi Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., Mahila Sahayogi Bachat Tatha Rin Sahakari Sanstha Ltd., Chhimek Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., Swabalamban Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd.
The training program was conducted in collaboration with MSC, a global microfinance consultancy firm with its head office in Singapore.
