Leadership Development Program to Enhance Capacity of Women Microfinance Practitioners.

The Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) has organized a two-day leadership development training to increase women participation in management decision level of the Microfinance with enabling their leadership capacity. In the training, it was stated that increasing the leadership of women in the microfinance sector, which has been instrumental in uplifting the living standards of the poor and disadvantaged and women, has shown that microfinance can have more effective results in poverty alleviation and job creation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shankar Man Shrestha, Chairman of the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) said that the microfinance program has upgrade poor women entrepreneurs and self-reliant and has inspired them to lead the microfinance campaign from the very beginning. "The belief of microfinance is that the women reach to leadership is an important tool to literate targeted poor women. We have given priority to women for leadership from the very beginning. The person who is still working at the field and sweating blood has not been able to reach the level of Chief Executive Officer of Microfinance. Let's think about leadership and work hard to achieve it. ” Shrestha said. He further reminding that microfinance is an important tool for the youth to create employment within the country and in their own villages, Mr.  Shrestha stressed on the need for women to take the lead and uplift the lives of the poor. "Just as mothers lead successful families, women should be able to run out-of-home businesses or organizations. You all have potential. It is important to use it properly. If you are lazy, ability alone does not work. Even with knowledge, negative thinking is a problem. The most important thing is to keep yourself active and energetic within yourself. Also, it is important to spend your energy, knowledge and abilities on positive things. MFIs need to be aware of their goals and objectives. Lately, chief executives have focused on money. Institutional interest does not matter to them. There is no focus on the happiness and wellbeing of the members. In the name of the poor, microfinance practitioners achieve all kinds of facilities but do not work to raise their living standards. There is a lot of negative news about microfinance right now. In some districts, there were reports that microfinance members had to flee the village. This did not happen before. Microfinance practitioners look at whether their members have improved or not. It remains to be seen whether the members will become financially strong. One could not forget the mantra that the “organization is strong only if the members are strong”. For this, the member had to be properly monitored as take care of her own children. Women have this ability. "Shrestha said.

The training was organized by CSD on March 3 and 4, 2022 with the objective of making the microfinance sector dynamic with new energy according to the essence and spirit of microfinance considering the situation where microfinance sector has not been able to move for the past two years due to corona pandemic. The training was attended by senior women microfinance practitioners.

Mr. Bikal Prasad Sherchan, the coach of the training, said that the leadership needs to be mindful for success. Mr. Sherchan also provided theoretical as well as practical inputs for mindful leadership. In this course, he also preformed various meditation methods on mindfulness.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Mr. Bechan Giri, Executive Chief of Centre for Self-help Development(CSD), stressed on the need for mindful leadership to solve the problems faced by women microfinance practitioners in microfinance. "The training must have given a sense of confidence and enthusiasm. Now you want to see what you have learned in the training applied in the field. Apply this learning in your practice as well as spread it among colleagues. Unless you put what you have learned into practice, you will not achieve anything. At the same time, it is important to know who we are, to move forward towards our duties and responsibilities. Our goal is to empower the poor. It's time to dump her and move on. " Giri said.

Mr. Satish Shrestha, director of the Centre for Self-help Development, said that the program was organized by CSD targeting women in the absence of women-centered training program to move forward the microfinance sector affected by Corona with new energy.
