The Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) successfully concluded its 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, 17 Mangsir 2082, endorsing strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening Nepal’s microfinance sector through digital transformation, enhanced governance and expanded youth-enterprise initiatives.
Acknowledging the shifting socio-economic landscape and the rising aspirations of Nepal’s young population, the Centre announced plans to encourage member microfinance institutions to modernize service delivery, improve administrative efficiency and scale up programs that promote youth-led self-employment.
Presenting the annual report, CSD Chairperson Mr. Shankar Man Shrestha detailed the income–expenditure performance and institutional progress for Fiscal Year 2081/82, along with the proposed action plan for Fiscal Year 2082/83. He highlighted the growing challenges of youth unemployment, poverty, and climate vulnerability, calling for a more proactive and impactful role from microfinance institutions. While recognizing the sector’s contribution in expanding financial access to rural communities, he emphasized the urgent need for stronger risk management, improved service quality, capacity enhancement, and increased adoption of digital technologies.
Mr. Shrestha also urged cooperatives and microfinance organizations to expand entrepreneurship-focused programs, citing the nationwide spread of 3ZERO Clubs as a transformative platform mobilizing youth for social and economic progress.
The Centre reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the effectiveness of Enterprise Incubation Centers, Green Shops for local-market management, Eco-Friendly Village initiatives, and social business–oriented projects in the upcoming fiscal year.
CSD Vice-Chairperson Mr. Mahendra Kumar Giri attributed the progress achieved during his tenure as Chairperson of the National Cooperative Bank to the core microfinance principle of providing small, impact-driven loans.
Under CSD’s coordination, member institutions have established 3,300 3ZERO Clubs across the country—an international milestone that positions Nepal as a leading model in youth-led development. Nepal’s recognition as the Best 3ZERO Support Organization for four consecutive years reflects the growing engagement, leadership, and social-economic contributions of Nepali youth.
The AGM concluded by reaffirming CSD’s unwavering dedication to driving nationwide socio-economic transformation and empowering rural communities toward self-reliance, expanded opportunity, and sustainable prosperity.
