CSD is the first licensed NGO MFI. It is the pioneer of the microfinance service providers of Nepal based on collateral free loan and women exclusive clients. It initiated Self-help Banking Program (SBP), a microfinance program, in 1993. In the year 2011 CSD transferred its microfinance portfolio to the Swabalamban Laghubitta Bikas Bank Ltd. Since then it concentrated mainly on the capacity building of MFIs and Cooperatives. CSD Celebrated 26th Anniversary

On August 12, 2017 (Shrawan 28, 2074) the Centre for Self-help Development (CSD) completed 26 years of its establishment. Passing through a lot of hardships it has been able to establish its cherished principles.
The celebration was made in a joy and cozy environment without any formal program. Enhancing MFI's Training Capacities through Advanced Training of Trainers (ToT)

The Centre for Self- help Development (CSD) organized a training program titled "Advanced Training of Trainers" held in Kathmandu. The five day training program was held from September 03-07, 2017 with an aim to develop in-house trainers from various MFIs.  This training was the phase II of the previous   Training of Trainers (TOT) held in the year 2015 and 2016. Leaders of Top MFIs reach a Declaration to combat Current Challenges & Issues in Microfinance

Over the years, the Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) in Nepal have been proactive in providing financial as well as social services to vitalize the financially excluded households in urban, semi-urban and far-flung and remote areas of the country, where formal financial institutions have been reluctant to venture into. Age of the new dawn: Advancing Financial Inclusion in a Digital Age

On March 21 – 22, 2017 the region’s premier thought leadership event on financial inclusion was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Asia-Pacific Financial Inclusion Summit was hosted by the State Bank of Vietnam and organized by the Citi Foundation and the Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC), in partnership with the Banking with the Poor Network (BWTP) and the Economist Group. The organizers sought to convene key stakeholders in the inclusive finance ecosystem to drive collective actions to promote positive change and inclusive growth across the region.

A Journey from an NGO to a Bank: Bandhan Bank's Experience

On the morning of March 9, 2017 the Centre for Self-help Development organized an interaction program on an experience sharing session with Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Founder and Managing Director of Bandhan Bank, India. The program took place in the capital city, Kathmandu and was attended by 40 heads of various Commercial Banks, Development Banks, Wholesale lending organizations, Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) and media persons.
